Basics

There have been many changes in the 90+ years of Oscars to who does the voting and how. Currently, the nominees of each Oscars category are determined by Academy voters in that same field. All Academy voters vote for for the winner from there and since the largest number of Academy voters are actors, they tend to have the most influence on who wins. https://www.oscars.org/oscars/voting

In 2009, the Academy changed the way voting is done on best picture to a complicated run off process. The number of nominees was also expanded from five to "up to" ten that year.

Do you love movies? Do you love The Oscars? Are those two questions mutually exclusive?

A few years back we started a yearly display around Oscar season featuring all the books we have in the library that were turned into Oscar nominated films. Now, you can explore that collection any time with this guide. From classics like Shakespeare and Charles Dickens to “Dune” and “The Martian”, check out the Oscar nominated (and winning) stories available in the library or through interlibrary loan. (And we have some of the movies too!)
